Teacher 2.0 • 21st Century Educator Workshops

Have you been hearing about Web 2.0? Do you want to use blogs, wikis, Nings, social bookmarking or digital projects in your classroom? Do you have questions about Web 2.0 but don’t know where to go? National Louis University’s Technology in Education program is offering a series of daily workshops that will help all the 20th Century Teachers transition to 21st Century Educators!

These non-graduate credit workshops provide non-technical teachers a hand- on opportunity to learn about, explore and make connections between the latest online tools and how you can use them in your classroom! CPDU’s are available!

Who should come?

Teachers who are at the novice level with respect to technology – who have an understanding of basic technology tools (such as, word processor, internet, spreadsheet), but are unfamiliar with Web 2.0 tools and other online resources.

What will we gain?

  • Topics will include:   Creating an Online Presence (blogs, wikis, Nings); Online Tools for the Classroom; Communicating & Collaborating Online (social bookmarking, VoiceThread, Skype); Multimedia for Teaching & Learning (images, video, and sound); and Creating with Multimedia (Animoto, etc.). See agenda (below) for additional details.
  • Understanding of Web 2.0 terminology and ways to access and incorporate these technology tools within their own classroom; ways to incorporate sound, video and images and use them effectively as classroom and professional resources
  • Final Product, which will be a web presence that will incorporate the many topics explored throughout the workshop
  • CPDUs, possibly 18

Format

  • 5 days over the course of one week
  • 9:00 – 12: 30   Morning Session:   instructional time, time to see, learn and explore
  • 1:30 – 3:00     Hands-on Practice:   optional time to receive personal instruction about how to use the technologies in your classroom; creation of something of value to you personally that will be the final product and outcome of this workshop

Creating an online presence

Tuesday/Day 2:
Communicating & Collaborating online
Skype
VoiceThread
Prezentit
Social Bookmarking sites: e.g., Diigo, del.icio.us, etc.

Wednesday/Day 3:
Online tools for teacher use
Google for Educators, Google Earth, Google Docs,
Google Groups, etc.
Online word processors, spreadsheets, slideshows
Online graphic organizers: Webspiration, Bubbl.us, Gliffy
Online calendars, personal organizers, etc.

Thursday/Day 4:
Locating appropriate sound, image , video and animation files for classroom and professional use
iTunes U (etc.)   •   Youtube   •   TeacherTube   •   Etc.

Friday/Day 5:
Digital resources — using them within your project
Online photo editing applications (Picnik, Splashup, PhotoShop Express, etc.)
Online video editing applications (Animoto, JayCut, etc.)
Online text to movie (Xtranormal, etc.)
Photo sharing sites (Flickr, Picasa, etc.)
Online comic strip creator (Comiqs)

 

Who are the instructors?

The instructors are adjunct professors from National Louis University, who are actively involved in integrating technology in K-12 classrooms. The specific instructors have yet to be confirmed, but their names will be added as soon as they are available....


When?   Where?   How much?   How do I register?

  • August 1-5, 9:00am - 3:00pm at National Louis University, Wheeling campus.
  • The cost for each workshop is $100, or $399 for the entire week.
  • Registration for the summer workshops is not available at this time. If you are interested in attending any of these workshops, please contact Debbi Hjelle (dhjelle@nl.edu).
